Patchogue, NY| Offensive struggles plagued the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team in a 72-54 defeat to the College of Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference contest inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.
SJC, now 4-16 on the year and 4-11 in conference play, scored two players in double figures: senior Trey Kinard (4-for-12 FG, 10 points) and sophomore Frank Basile (4-for-12 FG, 10 points).
For the third-straight game, junior Eddie Higgins led the Golden Eagles on the boards, this time grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.
Mt. St. Vincent (14-7, 12-4 Skyline) was led by Ammad Alkhulaidi, who shot 8-for-21 from the field, scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed six boards.
Mike Mulligan (6-for-8 FG) contributed 16 points off the bench for the Dolphins.
Trailing early, SJC later fell behind 31-19 with 3:10 to play but scored seven of the first half's final 10 points and entered the break down eight (34-26).
CMSV tallied the first five points of the second to extend its lead to 13 points (39-26) and maintained that momentum for the remainder of the half en route to a 72-54 victory.
Despite shooting better from beyond the arc (20.0% to 14.3%) and outscoring the Dolphins 32-25 in the paint, SJC was outshot 34.8% to 33.8% from the field.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday, February 5 when they head up to Newburgh, NY to face Mount St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference contest. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
