
Men's Basketball Defeated by Manhattanville on Tuesday
Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team was defeated, 78-63, by Manhattanville College in a Skyline Conference contest in Purchase, NY on Tuesday evening.
The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 5-11 overall on the year and 0-8 and Skyline play as the Valiants improve to 11-6 and 6-2.
SJC was paced by senior Frank Basile, who posted team-high totals for points (16) and rebounds (7).
Sophomore Matthew Lavin tallied 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting and grabbed three rebounds, and sophomore Michael Darby shot 3-for-7 from three and contributed nine points off the bench.
Senior Jonah Caldwell pulled down six rebounds and senior Doug Niblock went for six points and a team-high four assists.
The Manhattanville offense was powered by Jojo Cobbs, who was a 7-for-13 shooter from the field and scored a game-best 19 points.
In a contest that featured three ties and six lead changes, SJC held a 19-16 lead with 9:04 to play in the first half, but the hosts scored 25 of the frame's final 35 points and took a 41-29 lead into the break.
Manhattanville expanded its lead in the second half--to as many as 26 points (10:46)--and held off St. Joseph's for a 15-points victory.
The Valiants were the superior shooting team from the field (45.8% to 35.0%), but SJC held a 34.6% to 31.8% edge in three-point shooting percentage.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, January 30 when they visit Sarah Lawrence for a Skyline Conference contest at 6:00 pm.
