Old Westbury, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team scored four in double-digits but fell to SUNY Old Westbury, 88-79, in a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 5-6 overall on the year and 1-3 in Skyline play. The Panthers improve to 5-5 and 1-2.
Freshman Alec Tabada shot 8-for-11 from the field for a team-high 19 points. The forward also contributed 11 rebounds to complete his third double-double of the season.
From the bench, sophomore Ryan McNeely tallied a season-best 18 points (7-for-14 FG) while sophomore Anthony Ferrufino and senior Kevin O'Halloran went for 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Freshman Thomas Bell's seven assists were a game-best.
In a match that produced eight ties and four lead changes, SJC took a 45-42 lead into the break. With 11:00 minutes remaining in regulation, Old Westbury went ahead three points courtesy of Zachary Cummings' three-pointer and from there the hosts held off the Golden Eagles en route to an 11-point victory.
Old Westbury outshot SJC, 47.8% to 46.3%, but the guests held advantages in rebounding (41-36) and bench points (47-22).
The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, January 12, when they host the College of Mount St. Vincent at 7:00 pm. Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the region, spectators are prohibited to attend the event.
