Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Western Connecticut State University at home on Tuesday night. The Golden Eagles fall to 3-7 on the year as the Colonials improved to 7-4-2 with the victory.

The Colonials had an aggressive start in the first half recording six shots in the first 15 minutes and forcing Samantha Wedderburn to make four saves. WCSU would eventually break through in the 16th minute when Autumn Sorice came streaking down the left side who passed it behind her for Celia DeVoe who one-touched it into the lower left corner for the 1-0 lead. The Colonials doubled their lead in the 24th minute when Julian Bailey outpaced the Golden Eagles' defense to record her second mark of the evening. Western Conn. State's Andrea DeVoe extended the visitors' lead in the 34th minute, and Martin Paige made it a four-goal deficit just four minutes later to exit the half, 4-0.

The Golden Eagles were able to control the pace of the game in the opening minutes of the second half, with Christina Gagliardi taking the first shot that went just wide of the goal in the 50th minute. However the Colonials kept pushing numbers up as Martin potted the match's final mark in the 67th minute when she finished off a left-sided pass in front of goal. The Golden Eagles did well to thwart any other danger the rest of the game, dropping their contest 5-0.

SJC's Sam Caruso was credited with two of the Golden Eagles' six shots in the match. Wedderburn made eight saves in the first half and Juliana Cintron-Leonardo, who started the second half, recorded four saves for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles are back at it on Thursday, October 6 when they visit St. Joseph's College (Brklyn). Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM. Follow the match with live stats here.
