Women's Volleyball Opens Season with 3-1 win over Brooklyn College

The St. Joseph's University-New York (L.I.) women's volleyball team took home a 3-1 season-opening win against Brooklyn College on Thursday evening.

Top Performers

• Junior Jackie Wolf led the Golden Eagles with 20 kills while picking up 17 digs

• Senior Madison Gremli added 14 kills and 13 digs

• Setter Katie D'Angelo tossed a match-best 31 assists and served four aces

• Libero April Sexton picked up a match-high 27 digs

How it happened

• The Golden Eagles used their best hitting percentage of the day to propel them to a 25-14 win in the opening frame

• A tightly played second set went in favor of the Bulldogs, 25-23, to even the match at one win apiece

• SJLI had a strong push in the later half of the third set to claim a 25-12 win and regain a 2-1 match lead

• Trailing 8-7, a block from freshman Nina Vanderhoof sparked a 5-0 run giving the Golden Eagles a 12-8 advantage. Brooklyn caught up at 13 and neither side would lead by for than three down the stretch until back-to-back aces by Wolf secured the 25-21 win

• As a team, the Golden Eagles hit .155 while the Bulldogs finished at .045

• The visitors served up 16 aces to the hosts' four

• Defensively, SJLI picked up 83 digs with Brooklyn recording just 67
